Down In The Hole

 

A complex complication

Amped to panicky feel

Allows compulsive urge

To fog real with unreal

 

On foundation of quicksand

Innocence unprotected

A wound formed a scar

As a child went neglected

 

That loss begot loss

Fear tampered with norm

The soul sought a home

A hearth safe and warm

 

Cast down in the hole

In the dark and the damp

Despair can dig deeper

Or your light builds a ramp

 

Down in the hole

Your strength is the rope

To hang yourself with

Or climb up with hope

 

Know down in the hole

Though chilled to the bone

You can ask for a hand

You are never alone

 

And when the light fades

Truth is yours to conceal

For the sentence you serve

 Has been awaiting repeal

 

Though you push those away

Who may stumble through care

At the ready they stand

And will always be there

 

Down in the hole

With guilt, shame, and doubt

Love waits at the top
