Impractical Practice

As the wise old director

Advised his young actress

To play the great love scene

Takes impractical practice

Throw out what you know

Don’t think any of it through

A most powerful feeling

Is going to wash over you

The head ponders no sense

Of the mixed chaos in its brain

When the heart steals the show

And runs amok with free rein

You can plot out your course

Chart it with X’s and O’s

But when love comes along

Out the window reason goes

You must feel and embrace it

Give yourself to its control

Then each line that you deliver

Will be written by your soul
