Bridges And Branches
I’ve come many a mile
Have a few more to go
Don’t judge me too harshly
For what I’ve yet to know
A victory or two
Sometimes crushed in defeat
Lessons hard learned
Some mistakes of repeat
So grateful for those
Who offer the chance
To allow me to falter
And still urge me to dance
I’ll work on my words
Try to temper my tone
Ask for your patience
Until this tree is full grown
Anchored to good earth
And spreading each root
Speak water speak sunlight
Watch the branches bear fruit
When summer turns fall
I will sweep up my mess
And from it build bridges
To the truths we possess
Can we rise to the skies
Shed the old leaves to dust
If the best’s yet to come
Then the rest’s up to us
(being human, not a tree,
is both frightening
………………and wonderful)
