The Yearning
When you wake up from the stillness
Of long numbing restless sleep
To sense a stirring from within
At first subtle
Then gathering deep
It burgeons past a hunger
Into craving ravenous
This pit of yearning
A maelstrom clash
Its harangue cacophonous
Ice meets lava in the melee
Passed to chronic from acute
The harbinger is hidden
In foggy cloak
Prognostications from a mute
Souls closer than the air
Dancing to their unique beat
Sending out their ripples
Tween the waves
Where shore and ocean never meet
And here you are awake
All the cobwebs have been kept
As you pace the scales
And ask yourself
Was it too long that you slept
